To play on the team, you will need to be able to commit to house league (May and June)and rep practices and tentative Sundays for OWFL league play (May through to the beginning of August). Please consider this carefully. If however, the number of registrations in a division exceeds our projected numbers, we will revisit the possibility of a separate house league and rep team for that division.
As with other rep sports, we ask that once you commit to the team, that lacrosse doesn't become second to another sport the family has chosen to have their daughter involved in. Remember also, that lacrosse develops key skills for other sports and because it uses different muscles, provides all-around conditioning.
Prior to rep tryouts, each girl is asked to have the family complete a survey regarding their commitment level to the sport as well as indicating the week that the family will be away for vacation. These factors will help the coaches in determining the make-up of the team. Absences in addition to those outlined in the survey will result in the consideration of limited playing time.
There are two designated evenings for Rep Tryouts in the first week of May when we get access to the Town Fields. Girls are expected to be at both tryout evenings as this will be their regular rep practice nights as well.
Prior to being allowed to tryout, the player and their family must complete the Rep Commitment Survey (posted above) and submit a hard copy to the Head Coach.
Tryout #1 : Monday, April 30th 7:00 - 8:30 pm on the South Field
Tryout #2: Friday, May 4th 6:00 - 7:30 pm on the Centre Field
This year, Rep Fees will be assessed to each rep team shortly after tryouts. The fee will help to cover the costs of:
Reimbursements will be made if the initial rep fee exceeds actual budget.
Tentative Rep Assessment Fee Structure:
** The supplier has yet to confirm our costs, but a REP KIT will be purchased by each rep player consisting of a reversible pinnie and socks. We are estimating that the cost of this kit will be approximately $60.00.
** Players new to the rep program will be asked to purchase a BRINE Lady Hawks stick bag so as to maintain a "uniform" look amongst teams, and one that represents Oakville Lady Hawks Field Lacrosse.
After listening to feedback and some careful consideration in planning, the Ontario Women's Field Lacrosse Association has responded with a combined provincials (reflecting the boys box program) thereby extending the season for the younger girls and having their provincials be included with the older girls. These Girls Field Lacrosse Provincials will be held at the Civic Fields in Oshawa.
Tentative Provincial Dates for 2012
Under 11 & Under 15: Friday, August 3rd - Sunday, August 5th
Under 13 & Under 19: Friday, August 10th - Sunday, August 12th
In just their second season, with many players new to the sport this year, the U15 team coached by Laura McLaughlin, Sean Doyle and Darlene Zolis finished off a successful season at provincials this past weekend with a Bronze medal in the B division!
The bronze medal is a culmination of this team's hard work and dedication to learning the sport of lacrosse. Way to go U15!
Congratulations on a terrific season! We look forward to seeing your continued growth and development next year.
